There’s STEROLINE everywhere according to my brain:

• Stefan knew that Caroline was with Elena. Why? Because of reasons, probably of the boyfriend type. 
• “Where is Caroline?” is the first thing he says to Elena once he and Damon are out of the car.
• Damon stays outside with Elena, and Stefan goes inside with Caroline because… foreshadowing, okay?
• Once Stefan finds Caroline, even though she’s not herself, they melt ice—okay, okay, they found ice that’s melting because there’s no power.
• Caroline!Silas gets rid of Stefan and starts threatening Bonnie. I thought it was something that Silas decided to use Stefan and Caroline for it. Sure, Alaric came about eventually, and it probably had to do with a schedule thing, or giving Paul and Candice more to do, or because they have fun playing evil, or whatever, but I chose to see it as a shippy sign of some kind.
• Damon tells Alaric to tell Stefan about Caroline. I mean, sure, there are obvious reasons why that needs to happen, but again, I see it as “it’s important that Stefan knows that that is not Caroline because of boyfriend reasons.”

STEROLINE + LEXI

Stefan goes to The Grill to see Caroline, and she’s waiting for him to celebrate, ready with the bottle and the shot glasses. But Stefan has his “serious vampire look” on, and then I started getting all the feels because them sitting there, my mind instantly went to how he’s such a good friend to her even though she doesn’t exactly make it easy on him, and it’s all because she reminded him of his friend… So of course that as soon as Stefan said he was sad because he was hoping to see someone, my heart started pumping faster and faster with the possibilities.

They look at each other like boyfriend and girlfriend, and then a voice is heard, and Caroline looks to the side because Lexi is there!!! I LOVE how Stefan is looking at Caroline before turning around, he’s the cutest, and after some hugging, LEXI THANKS CAROLINE FOR KEEPING AN EYE ON HIM AND CAROLINE SMILES AT IT. I STARTED CRYING TEARS OF JOY. YOU DO NOT EVEN KNOW HOW MUCH I WANTED LEXI AND CAROLINE TO MEET!!! I need to stop with the caps, but seriously, ever since she died I’ve been sad for Stefan, but once he actually compared Caroline with her, I wanted to kill damon for robbing us of the chance of seeing a scene with the three of them. And now, it’s finally happened!!! I was ecstatic, it was seriously enough for me… but it wasn’t the end of it.

Stefan and Lexi walking around, she’s laughing at him, and not approving of him and Elena, when they get all cute about how much he misses her… and I don’t know if I can even type what’s next. I need a moment. Okay, Lexi says she sees she’s been replaced by another blond… I DIED, okay? I DIED. And it didn’t stop there, because once again Stefan opens his mouth when he didn’t actually have to, asking her why she’s giving him that look for… and I freaking can’t! “She’s cute” and his face. “DO NOT START” he warns, and all I could think was: YES!!! START, START. START!!! IT’S STARTING, IT IS HAPPENING. IT IS HAPPENING.

I honestly cannot call this a review, it’s just all fluffy feelings and butterflies and rainbows. Lexi freaking came back from the dead and she served the purpose of planting a little seed, or making Stefan aware of something that was already there, I don’t know, but that’s what she did this episode… I HAVE SO MANY FEELINGS!!! Season 5 is ours, and I am so freaking happy and excited!!!

RANDOM STUFF

• I really liked this episode. It wasn’t perfect, but I felt that many plots finally paid off, moving the story forward while making sense and rounding off some silly points from different parts of the season.
• Did Liz seriously say that the hospital’s blood bank’s empty? SERIOUSLY? If you’re human in Mystic Falls you WILL die. Unless you’re Matt, nobody kills Matt.
• Did anyone notice Stefan’s face seeing the blood? RIPPAH…
• I love how Rebekah’s hanging out at The Grill. I love Team Barbie so much!! And Matt and Bekah.
• I LOLed at how Katherine was asking Bonnie all the questions the audience would ask. I thought it was hilarious how it was even mocking some past storylines while at it. And I loved that Bonnie got to own her.
• Bonnie’s death… I’ve been ~predicting it since last season, and it was where I thought the whole “Bonnie goes dark” plot was going to go. It remains to be seen whether or not she’ll stay that way. I think she might, if only because Kat seems to be pretty into her singing career.
• About the Walking Dead: I love Alaric, he and Damon work well together, I’d missed that pair. I knew Jeremy HAD to show up, and it was really a great, great scene. Kol, not cool that you hurt Matt, not cool at all. I’m bummed that Matt didn’t get to see Vicki.

FINALE SPEC

• According to what Candice said on an interview, there are three possible paths for Caroline to take. I’m guessing one involves Tyler, other involves Klaus, and the third one involves Stefan, and is hopefully the one she’ll take. Off into the sunset together, please?
• I’ve been thinking that Damon was going to take the cure for ages, guess we’ll find out tonight. I’m kinda hoping he won’t because he’s the obvious choice, but I don’t think Elena will, so the only one left is Stefan…
• Some of the Walking Dead will stick around after the veil is dropped. Maybe Alaric since Cult was such a fail and Matt is available/beloved by the cast and crew? Perhaps Kol, to join The Originals?

I haven’t stopped squeeing or rewatching it, and this is what came out of it:

Caroline just pops up wearing a robe at the Salvatores, NBD, and then Stefan goes to see her mother because that’s what boyfriends do. He goes to support her/babysit Elena at the cheering competition, and gives Elena the stink eye when she calls Caroline “Queen.” Then he gets all alarmed over Caroline falling even though she’s a vampire and he should know that it’s no biggie. But he still gets really mad and vervains Elena and she wakes up all jelly.

He calls Caroline so they can “enjoy the party” together, and then……. HOW DO I KEEP TYPING? SHE GOES ALL “AWW, LOOK, FUN” AND HOW IT MAKES HER WANNA LET GO AND I AM LIKE “I C WOT U DOIN, SHOW.” He mentions his little problem with partying and killing AND SHE GIVES HIM THE GREENLIGHT AS HIS SOBER COACH. She says that he is at a kegger, full of hot girls, and he’s single and “YOU’RE, WELL, YOU’RE… YOU” AND SHE ALWAYS SAYS THAT WHILE LOOKING AT HIM WITH THAT FACE AND IT’S ALL CODE FOR “YOU ARE HOT AND I STILL WANT TO MARRY YOU IN JUNE” .

AND I WAS GOING INSANE AS HE ASKS IF HE SHOULD GRAB SOME GIRL, THROW HER OVER HIS SHOULDER AND TAKE HER TO THE DANCE FLOOR, AND THEN SHE SAYS HE SHOULD TAKE HIS OWN ADVICE AND HAVE FUN BECAUSE THEY DESERVE A LITTLE BIT OF FUN AND I STARTED LOSING IT BECAUSE I KNEW WHAT WAS COMING (BTW, it’s official: FUN = STEROLINE). HE TAKES HIS OWN ADVICE AKA HER ADVICE AND TAKES HER AND YES YOU MEANT YOU, CAROLINE. AND. I. DIED. HE TAKES HER TO THE DANCE FLOOR AND DANCING HAPPENS. STEFAN & CAROLINE DANCING ONCE AGAIN, SOMEBODY HOLD ME!!!

JELLY ELENA SEES THEM AND GOES TO COCKBLOCK AND FREAKING STEFAN ASKS IF SHE’S JEALOUS. HE. ASKS. THAT. AND SHE SAYS THEY LOOK GOOD TOGETHER, Then ruins it being crass with the spin part but SHE MAKES THEM ALL AWARE AND AWKWARD. Then she tells Liz that CAROLINE’S FLIRTING WITH STEFAN, but darn Elena hurts Liz and Stefan has to touch calm Caroline down.

Steroline go to their place, the woods, to look for Elena, and he’s all “snap her neck” and it made me laugh for some reason. But I can’t believe he actually had to save Caroline from being killed by Elena.

And then the end. CAROLINE USES “WE” AND “US” TO MEAN HER AND STEFAN AND I’M ALL “KILL ME NOW.” AND FUCK DAMN IT YOU CANNOT HAVE MY OTPS MAKING DEALS AND SHAKING ON IT. IT HURTS, PLEASE STOP. OR, ACTUALLY, DO NOT STOP, I LOVE IT! THEY ARE FINALLY TOUCHING NOT JUST SITTING ACROSS EACH OTHER LIKE ~EWW COOTIES~ BUT THEY TOUCHED AND DANCED AND TOUCHED AND FLIRTED AND TOUCHED AND MADE A DEAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ahhhhhh, I’m so happy right now. We, Steroline shippers, deserved a little bit of fun, and this was a whole lot of it. Hope there’s much more to come. So. Bring. It. On.

They are perfect best friends, why aren’t they together?? HOW???

First off Klaus mentioned Stefan moving out, and I wanted him to comment on him living with Caroline, but no such luck. Having seen the webclip, when Stefan pointed out the snowflake, I just went crazy. OT3: snowflakes FTW!

Steroline’s phone talk was lovely, as per usual, and it was nice that she was asking for his help this time. And then came one of the best scenes EVER because for Caroline: Stefan »»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»> everyone else.

Tyler’s looks and accusations made for a very triangley situation; and it is a triangle, maybe not a romantic one at the moment, but there’s a conflict of interests, and Caroline was on Stefan’s side. When Stefan tried to stop Tyler and Caroline called after him, he thought it was to stop him, but it was actually because they were surrounded by hybrids. Team Stefan through and through, and I CANNOT CONTAIN THE FEELS THIS GAVE ME!!!!!!!

But I am SO mad that the fact that Tyler LOCKED HER AND STEFAN ON THE CELLAR WITH THE HYBRIDS WHO TORTURED CAROLINE IN THE PREVIOUS EPISODE WAS BRUSHED OFF LIKE NOTHING. UGH, SO MUCH HATE. I was hoping they’d at leave Steroline alone for some ~bonding time, but no such luck… 

And then ALL THE KLEFAROLINE FEELS, with Klaus knowing that Stefan and Caroline were in cahoots, and with a really interesting talk between him and Stefan, which had Klaus saying the exact word that Caroline used to describe his painting. This is probably a better dynamic than I could’ve imagined back when I started hoping for Klefaroline; Klefan have their ripper instincts connecting them, while Steroline are friends because he helped her supress them, and Klaroline connected because Klaus made her see vampirism in a new light. Now she’s helping Stefan fight those ripper urges, but she does gets the essence of it, which allows her to connect with the both of them. Please give me more of this TVD!!!

Another interesting conversation was Steroline’s, wondering what’s the difference between them and Klaus. I agree that they’ve done terrible things in the name of looking out for their group - the endless list of people who died to keep Elena alive comes to mind. But I also think there is a difference. Caroline, beyond when she first turned and killed that guy Bonnie was sorta dating, only killed to deffend herself/her friends. You can argue that, like above, that doesn’t make it right, but she’s not using her vampire abilities for outright evil deeds. I think that’s where the line’s drawn between what she has done, and what Klaus, Stefan himself, and Damon have done.

The conclusion that FAMILY and TRUST are what makes the difference prompted Caroline to tell Stefan about Delena’s naked hugging, as I’d suspected from the promo. Her face, his face, her not being able to say it, but him getting it anyway, and being heartbroken by it while she was heartbroken for him, what an outstanding scene! They are so great together, I could just watch hours and hours of Paul and Candice silently communicating with each other. I cannot wait to see more of them when the season picks up in January!

I wanna adress something from 4x08, because Tyler went from telling the hybrids “we’re all in the same team” to “I’ll rip her heart out” to “I’m not gonna hurt her, I don’t kill and torture my own friends to get what I want” to “we gotta work together” to “submit or you die”… all this said while his hand was deep inside Kim’s chest ready to pull her heart out, so, which is it? 

Also, Stefan’s been keeping Tyler safe from Damon for Caroline’s sake for seasons now. And Damon is a douche for never caring about him. I get it, they aren’t friends, and Tyler’s not exactly my favourite, but the fact that he can so easily dismiss Tyler’s life at this point of the series really adds fuel to the Damon always helped ELENA, so why should Elena care about how he’s treated everyone else fire.

The sequence with Klaus killing everyone was epic, and the music in the last scene was very poignant, which was all so necessary because THIS is Klaus. To have that almost juxtaposed with Steroline’s conversation made their debate all the more meaty, and woah, ok, seriously no pun intended there.
